Up, Up Like Matchsticks

Caught between adult responsibilities as her grandmother’s caretaker and memories of childhood, an overly nostalgic 20-year-old, Joey, attempts to reunite her friends to perform the tornado ritual they devised as children.

The film cuts between the past, following the girls as they forge a friendship, and the present, where they have drifted apart in adulthood. As Joey forces her friends back together, old wounds resurface, hidden truths come to light, and they confront the possibility that their childhood ritual held real power.

Underpinning their interpersonal conflicts is a conspiracy surrounding the tractor tire factory that once employed their community.
